The most common question I’m asked is “what is content?” In short – it’s the information you post on your website. And the easiest way to create new content is by blogging.
How often do you blog?
Creating new content serves two purposes – it provides your customers and prospective customers with applicable information that they can apply to their daily lives or helps them solve a problem. The other is its good for SEO.
So how can you create new content and make sure it maximizes your SEO?
What is a popular topic?
People want to know the answers to the latest and most important questions. So write a blog about what people care about most. But be sure you include your differentiator to stand out in the mix of information. Why is your answer different?
What’s your keyword or phrase?
Once you know your topic – determine what keyword or phrase people are using to find answers to that popular topic. And use it often. Search engines love that. (See Google)
Get to the point.
My biggest pet peeve is when people babble on for 3 paragraphs on how they came to the conclusion they’re about to talk about. I don’t care. You don’t care. The only person who cares is the author. So jump right into the topic and make it about the reader. The rule of thumb is to keep it to 1 word document page.
Post blogs to social media.
People don’t miraculously know when you post new content. Search engines crawl your site based on how often you post. But those are bots. People aren’t bots. So social media helps drive traffic to your site to read your new content.
So keep content fresh, on the latest trends, and about things people want to hear about. Oh – and do it weekly. More is better in this case.
